75th Gathering
Since 1953, Members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives have invited the President of the United States to break bread and pray for each other as well as other leaders at home and abroad.
From 1953 until 1970, the Prayer Breakfast was called the Presidential Prayer Breakfast. Then in 1970, the Prayer Breakfast was renamed to the National Prayer Breakfast. In order for the name to reflect the programming of unity among our leaders, the Prayer Breakfast at the United States Capitol is now known as the United States Prayer Breakfast.
Vision and Purpose
Our Breakfast is an opportunity for Members of Congress to pray collectively for our nation and the President of the United States on a nonpartisan basis in the spirit of love and reconciliation as Jesus of Nazareth taught 2,000 years ago.
Every president, regardless of party or religious persuasion, has joined since. Persons of any faith tradition or no faith tradition are welcome.
United in believing that by looking to the life of Jesus, people of diverse backgrounds and beliefs can join together, encourage and promote forgiveness and reconciliation. From the vision of the Breakfast
